Archives For Review

As a member of the She Speaks community, I am often given a chance to test and review new products. This month I received two bottles of Torani Syrup. I am a huge fan of their Syrups, having first noticed them in a coffee shop. I wanted to try and make my own coffee drinks at home, so I purchased my first bottle of French Vanilla. I was sold!!

As you can tell, I keep adding to my collection. I was thrilled when She Speaks and Torani sent me two flavors to test and review. Sugar Free Salted Caramel and Gingerbread. Two perfect Holiday flavors. When I go to my local coffee shop, I always order a Salted Caramel Mocha. I set out to make my own at home with my new flavor. Turns out it is pretty simple to make.

I used a mocha coffee K cup, brewed it very strong, added 1/4 cup steamed milk, a squirt of Chocolate Syrup and then 2 squirts of Sugar Free Salted Caramel. I topped it off with some whipped cream and a few sprinkles of coarse salt. PERFECT!

My non-coffee drinkers have added 2 squirts to their cup of cocoa and loved it! Endless possibilities. I haven’t made anything with the gingerbread syrup, but I am excited to try it now that my gingerbread K-cups have arrived.

If you are interested in trying Torani, please print this $1 off coupon!

disclosure: I received free product from Torani and She Speaks. My opinions are my own!

I have a love/hate relationship with bugs. You know what I mean….I HATE them and HATE killing them, hence the love/hate. I have to close my eyes to step on a bug and then I make a loud noise because I hate the sound/feel of the squish. So, when I was sent a package from Combat, I was delighted to try their products.

I received two packages of Combat Source Kill MAX, their gel and their baits. I had used baits before and found them to be pretty effective, but not so pretty on the counter or within sight. So I loved the combination of the two. My biggest problem with ants is here:

The pesky ants crawl up the side of the house and stream into the kitchen through this window. I never liked putting a bait trap on the sill, so I put them under the counter near the sill. Then I used the gel around the cracks in the sill. The gel is very easy to use, it’s in a syringe. There was no noticeable odor and within a day or two, the ants stopped marching in! Yay Combat! Here is some information from their website

How Combat® Source Kill Max Ant Killing Gel Works:

Ants take the gel and return to the colony

Ants feed the bait to the larvae and the queen, killing the colony.

I like the idea of taking the bait to the colony. It worked for me and maybe it will work for you because one of you is going to win a box of Combat Source Kill Max Ant Killing Gel of your own. Must be over 18, a resident of the US. (no P.O. Box)

You can also sign up for their newsletter and get a $1.00 off coupon for future use!

Fall in Love with Scentsy!

Diane Hidey —  September 2, 2012 — 3 Comments

I am so excited – the new Scentsy Fall Catalog is here. I have fallen in love with several Warmers and a few of the new scents are so yummy!! If you are not familiar with Scensty, let me give you a little history before I show you some of my new favs!

Scentsy began with a simple idea – a safe alternative to scented candles. It just makes sense for me. Why light a candle to add a scent to the room? Why risk the dangers of open flames around pets, kids and crazy relatives (just kidding about the relatives)? I love to have a warm home and I often thought I had to keep a candle or two burning to add an ambiance to the room. Sometimes we need to cover over smells–a pet, stinky shoes, cooking odors and the like. A room spray is nice, but sometimes it just doesn’t last long enough. When I discovered the smart way of Scentsy, I was sold on it.

Simple, decorative and beautiful warmers designed to melt scented wax with the heat of a small light bulb–such a great alternative to a wick and flame. Not to mention there are no longer soot marks on the wall above my mantle. Trust me, it is hard to scrub off and in my last home, I had to repaint the entire room to get rid of all the soot!

Are You Ready for Some FOOTBALL?

School has not started here, but this Friday I am going to a pre-season RAVENS football game. I am EXCITED! Everyone in my family is a die-hard sports fan. Some lean more towards Orioles Baseball or Maryland Terps Basketball, but everyone of us is a Ravens Fanatic. It started when I was really young. My Dad would listen to the Baltimore Colts games on the radio. His enthusiasm was contagious. I loved hearing him explain about Johnny Unitas or Raymond Berry and some incredible play. I went to a few games in high school and college. But all that changed one night. The Baltimore Colts were moved to Indianapolis in the middle of the night. I actually cried over it! And to this day, I have a dislike for the Indianapolis team. Finally, Baltimore got an NFL franchise. The city came alive again. A new stadium was built and a new generation of Baltimore football fans emerged.

My niece moved to Denver and found a Ravens fan club there. She watches all the games with these new friends now. My brother-in-law has season tickets and is a very generous guy, so many in our family get to attend games with him! If we are not at the game, we are glued to the TV set cheering on the Ravens.

Football season also means great tailgating and fun food to eat. SNICKERS® has teamed up with the NFL to offer mini bars with the NFL logo – of your FAVORITE team. These candies are being sold exclusively in Walmart. Be sure to stop in and get some of your own. I think the bagged candy is so much easier to store and it keeps everyone (me included) from eating too much at one time! Thanks SNICKERS! Yesterday I picked up a few bags of minis to make treats for our tailgating event this weekend. I decided to make two decadent chocolate desserts.

SNICKERS® Mini Cupcakes

Take your favorite brownie mix and prepare according to the package. Line 24 mini muffin with paper liners. Spoon in enough batter to cover the bottom. Place an unwrapped SNICKERS® Mini on top. Spoon on enough mix to cover the candy. Bake at 350 degrees for 20 minutes. Let set in pan to cool for 10 minutes. Remove to serving tray. These are also a perfect treat to freeze and serve later!

Imagine the surprise when your guests think they are eating a cupcake and get a burst of chocolate delight from the insides of these!

SNICKERS® Stadium Brownies

I found this recipe on the back of the Ghirardelli’s Brownie Mix. I changed up a few things. You can use this with any brownie recipe. Prepare brownie mix according to directions. Pour into a greased pan. Spread a layer of popped popcorn on the top. You can use Kettle Corn, Buttered Corn or Plain. I have tried all three. Then layer on 2 cups of chopped SNICKERS® Minis. Press gently into brownie mix. You can also add more chocolate chips or peanuts. This time I omitted both of those and the results are great. It has all the stadium favorites right in the brownie! Bake at 350 degrees for 25-35 minutes. Cool in pan. Store in airtight container. These cannot be frozen.

Have I got you ready for some FOOTBALL? Or are you ready for some delicious SNICKERS goodness? There is a #SnickersMini PINTEREST Party from August 29, 2012 – September 12, 2012. I will close with one final RAVENS picture. Last year, the Ravens made a great run for the Super Bowl. On the Sunday of the final game, this was posted at my brother’s church. My nephew Garon is the sign fixer. He gets the letters and numbers lined up and changes the sign each week. This week, he let his love of the Ravens shine! Garon is autistic and I love being with him and he is often featured in my blog posts, so it was only fitting to end with one of my favorite Garon Shots!!

disclosure: I am a member of the Collective Bias™ Social Fabric® Community.  This shop has been compensated as part of a social shopper insights study for Collective Bias™ and SNICKERS® Brand NFL Minis #SnickersMinis #CBias #SocialFabric”. I am a fan of chocolate, football, the Ravens and SNICKERS!!
I am a fan of eating a great breakfast, but sometimes there is not enough time to have a big sit down breakfast. So. on mornings like that I often grab my favorite quick fix– a bowl of cereal. A few weeks ago I received a box of Fiber One® Nutty Clusters & Almonds cereal by General Mills to sample and review. I love getting a great cereal, full of nutrition, fiber, grain and little or no sugar! So, I loved this flavor in the Fiber One cereal line. I do not usually choose granola cereals, I just love the flake cereal texture best, so I was a bit skeptical about the ‘clusters’ in this one. I was duly impressed. The nut clusters added a nice sweet, but not too sweet flavor. Almonds are my go to nut, so this cereal was near perfection!!

It contains 11 grams of fiber, which is 43% of the daily amount needed. There are 23 grams of whole grain and only 180 calories (in a 1 cup serving). I will admit that the above pictured bowl of cereal was a little more than the serving size recommended on the box. But, I really enjoyed the taste, the crunch and the good things it brings to my body!

This is all my opinion, so if you want to try it, here is a link to a $1.25 off one box of Fiber One Clusters & Almonds. Studies show that 9 out of 10 Americans do not get enough fiber in their diet and I am one of them. This  cereal helps me reach my goal of 25 grams of fiber per day. And as you can see above, I love adding fruit to the cereal. Another dietary win! My conclusion, if you are in the market for a new cereal or are looking to add some good fiber to your diet, I recommend you try this latest brand from Fiber One. You won’t be disappointed!
My gift contained 2 boxes of Fiber One Nutty Clusters & Almonds and a Nut Bowl, Nutcracker and Spoon. One of my readers is going to get the same gift set, pictured below. I can’t wait to use the nut bowl at Christmas. I love cracking almonds, walnuts, pecans and hazelnuts!
To enter to win this pack for you and your family, please fill in the Rafflecopter below. Winner will be chosen by at midnight on August 17 and will have 24 hours to respond via email. This contest is only open to those in US over 18 years old. Thanks for entering!
