I love Christmas movies–actually I can watch a Christmas movie any time of the year. I have been known to DVR movies all throughout the holiday season. I was thrilled when I was asked to watch a special sneak peek of a new movie, The Heart of Christmas. The movie was produced by the Gospel Music Channel and stars Candace Cameron and Matthew West and a cast of others.
The Heart of Christmas is based on a true story, which makes it even more heart-felt. Yes, I did tear up. The story is centered around a chance encounter between Megan and the family across the street. Unbeknownst to her 13 month old Dax is dying from acute leukemia. The movie follows two story lines. We watch as Megan’s struggles with finances are replaced with a struggle of faith. Who is God and where is He in the midst of the pain? The other story line follows Dax and his parents, Julie and Austin. We see their fear and love. Flashbacks are used to tell Julie’s side of the story, through her online Caring Bridge site. One of the best parts of the movie is watching the town pull together to support Dax. There is definitely an evangelistic flavor to this movie. God is real in the lives of these families and the movie helps us see how He can play a part in transforming our lives, even those with lots of pain.
By the end of the movie you will be moved to tears and perhaps to action. There are many people suffering and at this time of the year, we can do something for them! If you get a chance, please watch this movie!!
