Fall in Love with Scentsy!

Diane Hidey —  September 2, 2012 — 3 Comments

I am so excited – the new Scentsy Fall Catalog is here. I have fallen in love with several Warmers and a few of the new scents are so yummy!! If you are not familiar with Scensty, let me give you a little history before I show you some of my new favs!

Scentsy began with a simple idea – a safe alternative to scented candles. It just makes sense for me. Why light a candle to add a scent to the room? Why risk the dangers of open flames around pets, kids and crazy relatives (just kidding about the relatives)? I love to have a warm home and I often thought I had to keep a candle or two burning to add an ambiance to the room. Sometimes we need to cover over smells–a pet, stinky shoes, cooking odors and the like. A room spray is nice, but sometimes it just doesn’t last long enough. When I discovered the smart way of Scentsy, I was sold on it.

Simple, decorative and beautiful warmers designed to melt scented wax with the heat of a small light bulb–such a great alternative to a wick and flame. Not to mention there are no longer soot marks on the wall above my mantle. Trust me, it is hard to scrub off and in my last home, I had to repaint the entire room to get rid of all the soot!

I recently had the opportunity to test out a SodaStream Genesis. For over a year I entered many blog contests to win a SodaStream. I stopped at the local home goods store and looked at the display. I never bought one, but really wanted one…for all the reasons you might be wanting one. Tap water becomes carbonated water. Lots of available flavors. No more lugging home large soda bottles or awkward packs of cans. Did I mention the savings? How about making it the right flavor for you? Reduce and reuse. I could go on, but let me share my thoughts.

First, the set I got contained so many syrups and sample syrups. Regular and Diet. Tea and Juice. Flavored sparkling waters. I had a hard time deciding which to use first.

After unpacking the unit I watched a video online that showed the set-up process. I cleaned the eco-friendly, reusable soda bottle, filled it with water and pushed the carbonating button. I must confess the first time I did not screw the soda bottle onto the machine–oops! Well, big oops! After cleaning up the water, refilling the bottle, I started over and it was perfect. I added the diet root beer and surprised the guests with homemade soda!

This past weekend I had some friends over and they were eager to make soda also.  I explained the process and let them have at it! The proof is in the pictures. First batch was lemon-lime and no one could tell the difference between our soda and the ‘other’ kind!

Here is my take–easy to use. No electricity needed. C2O canisters are exchangeable at numerous stores. You can get extra syrups and bottles at many stores that sell home goods. The flavors are easy to add and taste very similar to those you can buy in a can! I love that part. No one noticed the difference and some actually commented on how it tasted much better than canned soda. Because flavors are made using no high-fructose syrups you actually save calories on regular flavors and all the diet varieties are made with Splenda.  The average cost of fixing a flavored soda is less than 25 cents for 12 ounces and the cost of one liter of sparkling water is about 25 cents. That’s a bargain and I don’t have to carry anything home from the grocery store. Soda Stream has over 25 varieties of flavors, including diet and regular, juices, teas, sparkling water and sparkling naturals. Something to please any soda drinker in your home. Each canister of gas makes over 60 liters of soda and the large syrup bottles will make the equivalent of 33 cans. All you store is a small syrup bottle and a slim Soda Stream, which by the way uses no electricity, so it is perfect for taking on trips. Just add cold water.

Want to buy one for yourself or a friend? Check out the Soda Stream site for ‘where to buy’. There are several varieties of SodaSream machines and different packages starting at $79.95. You may also purchase from their site, with guaranteed delivery if you order by December 18. Keep up on the latest SodaStream buzz and a giveaway going on next week….’like’ their page on Facebook.

My bottom line–this is a perfect gift for a family- kids, young and old will enjoy the process. Another great gift to bring the family together. Want a ‘green’ gift this year? Pick this one. If you want to enjoy better soda-chose the SodaStream!

I love the holidays–I start playing Christmas music WAY TOO EARLY–and I’m not embarrassed to say it! I love finding the best deals too. So naturally I am excited during the holidays when there is so much free and cheap music available.

A staple of my holiday music search is Amazon.com. This year, once again they are hosting the 25 Days of Free Holiday Music. Today is Day 5 and the selection is Greensleeves by Manheim Steamroller (a holiday favorite!). Each of the previous days are also available. So please go check it out.

FeelsLikeChristmas.com has been offering free downloads for a few years. They offer Traditional or Contemporary Instrumental or Vocal. Sure to be a few on there that you want to listen to while you work, decorate, etc.

Amazon and iTunes are offering some cheaper Holiday Albums ($7.99 and under) If you want the whole album then this is your sale. Both sites also offer holiday singles at reduced prices also.

If you are a Pandora or Spotify fan then you know the beauty of setting up your own radio station. I have a Mariah Carey Christmas one and a Bing Crosby one. Also check out live365.com for radio station music presets (Christmas Jazz, Smoky Mountain Christmas, Blue Light Specials and more).

One of the reasons I constantly play Christmas music is that I am often with my 83 year old Mom who has Alzheimer’s. Many memories are gone, but Christmas lives on. We play music constantly when she is here and it is such a sweet picture to see her looking at a magazine or doodling some art piece and singing along to the classic songs and carols.

What’s your favorite Christmas song–traditional or classic?
My two favorites are Mariah Carey’s All I Want For Christmas is You and Joy to the World by Allen Levi, Bebo Norman and Ed Cash.

I have been a fan of DaySpring.com since I first started checking out my local Christian bookstore. They had the best cards–for any occasion. However, they are WAY more than a great card company. Their website is full of perfect gifts for anyone on your list. Last year I fell in love with their nativity hurricane candle set. This year I was drawn back to their site when I saw some of their Thanksgiving home decor items.

I received two wonderful Day Spring products to review for my blog AND I was able to ‘gift’ one of my readers with a $50 Day Spring gift certificate.

I had $50 to spend on the site and I must admit I labored over what would be the perfect thing to get. I wanted a Christmas item at first, but decided to go with things I could use year round. I recently painted my kitchen a bright white and rearranged my coffee bar station. When I saw the Be Still framed art, I had to get it. The picture is 6×8 inches and fits on the top of my K cup holder.

The second piece I got has one of my favorite Bible verses on it. The 12×12 inch clock is carved from wood, stands as an easel or hangs on the wall and is made by a local company in Dalton OH by the family owned business P Graham Dunn. I love that Day Spring has so many products that are made in the US. I have the clock hanging in my kitchen. The message is from Jeremiah 29:11 For I know the plans I have for you.

These two items are just a small picture of what is available on Day Spring. You can find gifts for all the special events in life and gifts that can encourage or help those who are in need. I love the baby section–especially now that my niece is expecting. And be sure to check out their sale section. I have found a few good bargains there also. The shipping and handling were excellent. My order arrived in less than a week. I would order early, to get your gifts in time for Christmas, or you can have Day Spring send your gift for you.

Please check out DAYSPRING.COM and like them on Facebook. Right now there is a 10% code available if you like them on Facebook! And you may want to check out their blog, which is currently running a giveaway also.

I am offering the $50 DaySpring gift code as part of my 12 Gifts Galore event.
